AUDIENCE REsearch Results
Before starting on our trailer, poster and movie magazine pieces, it is key for us to interact with our target audiences to find out what they want. To do this, I conducted research on many different levels of media in order to find out as much as I could in several ways.
Questionnaire
Above is the drafted version of my questionnaire, and below are five of the completed products and data collected from five different volunteers. After receiving this data, we tallied up the results and started to think about how we can apply the audience's choices to our work.
Involving the potential audience in this decision influenced our decision-making when looking at small factors such as colour schemes, content and lighting. While those contributing to the research generally picked different options in each question all those participating chose the same option for numbers 5 and 6 so as a group we concluded that we definitely must go with these popular options.
Mock-ups
Above is a screenshot of our production team's Facebook page. We have uploaded four of Alethia's sketches for our movie poster and as we are having trouble deciding on which one we favour, we thought it would be a good idea to ask our target audience.
Once the four designs were scanned and uploaded onto Facebook, we asked our target audience to 'like' their personal favourite out of the four. There was a majority vote and so by doing this we were able to see which of the designs were most appealing to the audience. It is not to say that we will definitely go with this choice as those who voted were unaware of our movie concept, but we feel that it will still help us with the style and layout when we begin working on the final product.
Video interviews
Out of all the types of media I used when constructing my research, I found that the video interview enabled me to really understand the target audience. This is because it was mostly open-questioned, meaning the participators were able to go into depth about their answers, giving detailed reasons for them. Also, it was interesting as I found that even when each person would go for the same answer, they had different reasons for choosing it. The data I have gathered from this research method is very helpful, and we will undoubtedly review it when we begin shooting our trailer.

an overall reflection
When reflecting on my audience research stage, I can say that through the strict and precise questionnaire we have come to a conclusion about many things regarding our final products. Through giving my audience multiple choice questions, we were able to make clear decisions by looking back on their responses. We were able to decide on important factors involved in the magazine and poster through this questionnaire and this was simple and easy. Although this was good for us, it is also important to consider that there was a limit to what my audience could say. That is why it was important to conduct a video interview. In my video interviews I recieved responses that were much more helpful. This, in my opinion, was the most useful method of research as subjects were given the chance to discuss their thoughts openly. I interviewed five individuals who fit into those who we would view as our target audience and they aided us in the production of our trailer when deciding locations, sound and editing factors. When using social networking, I feel that I did not get enough responses on Facebook to lean on this data. I scanned and posted our mock ups onto our fan page and asked a selection of people to 'like' their preferred image. Although there was a clear preference shown, if given the chance again, I would've asked for feedback so that we knew the postives and negatives about each design. I also could have incorporated other social networking sites, such as Twitter, to gain a wider audience.
