November 7th - SHOOTING

Although we did not have a lesson today, we all managed to get ourselves together for an after school shooting session. While we planned to get the trailer footage completed today, we were running late and it was taking longer than planned. However, we did get three of the shots finished in the little time we had and we tackled issues on this day. Following our call sheet, we used the conference room of the college as a basement simply because it is quite bare when you move around some of the furniture. The problem we found was that one of the walls is painted bright pink so we decided not to show it as it seemed too well decorated to function as a basement. We also spent a lot of time organizing our set as there was a limit to plugs and we had to settle for using a plug that would show in the shot. We were careful of not showing too much wire in the frame as this would make it seem like less of a basement and more of a set. Another issue we faced here was that we had to show that our character was dead without showing his face as it is a murder mystery and we did this through makeup by putting blood across Richard's neck. However, we were unable to shoot this shot close up as we had previously planned because without makeup for a wound, the blood looks fake and we want to avoid this as much as possible throughout our trailer.

As we are still undecided on who should fulfill each task for the production stage - as we want the best person for each job - we are spending today working equally on each and putting all of our ideas together as a group. Alethia and Andre are working together on photoshop to brainstorm layouts and ideas regarding the poster and magazine while Richard continues to complete the editing of the trailer and the footage that we already have. Unfortunately Isabel was absent in this lesson, but her task will either be working on the sound or fixing up the website and contributing to each of the other tasks by helping the other members of our group. Our deadline to complete the editing should be finished by friday the 10th but as we have not finished filming our clips for the trailer, we can not completely finalize it. As a group we spoke about when we all have free time to shoot the ending of our trailer and we came to an agreement that we would either shoot next week Wednesday or Thursday with all of the characters hopefully being available.

Now we have all of our tasks set out for us. Alethia is in charge of our photoshop products, meaning today she would work on our magazine and poster. She has used the audience research to determine what fonts and layouts to use. This needs to be done by Friday and we are on track. Richard has finished editing and cutting all of our footage together and will put a start to inserting captions as well as thinking about what filters to add. Andre has been assigned the big job of doing the sound for the trailer using garage band software. He will need a lot of help on this task as he has never used the software before. We have planned to shoot today after school and we are aiming to get at least three shots of the final confrontation. Then hopefully by the end of this week we will have all the footage for our trailer.

These two photos were taken whilst we were shooting for the montage of our trailer. It was difficult to achieve the right kind of lighting and we went to extremities in order to do so. (Refer to how Richard is holding the light underneath me in the right photo.)

Now that we have more shots to fill the animatic template, we were able to put these all together today. As well as that, we added a filter to our trailer as well as professional-looking captions to make our trailer more conventional. We also did something today that we had been wanting to do since the pre-production stage, which was construct our own moving logo animatic to insert into our trailer. While Richard was adding the above things to our almost complete trailer, Alethia, Andre and I began planning for our evaluation questions and this also involved deciding on who would take each question depending on our strengths and weaknesses.

november 20th - final products revealed to class

Today was a very interesting and productive lesson for each of the groups as we were showing our three final products to the other groups. This allowed us to gain feedback, suggestions for improvements and also the other groups were able to boost our confidence by admiring our work. Through this, Alethia and Richard were able to construct a set of improvements that need to be made on the magazine, poster and trailer from the feedback that was received. We were at a disadvantage however as we mistakenly showed the class a previously saved trailer - not the most recent version. Regardless of that, it was still a productive way to spend the lesson as by the end of this month we are expected to start on our evaluations and spend no more lesson time on our final products.

Today we spoke about the the planning of our evaluation. During this week we will start to put planning into practice and anchor our final products. For us to be able to answer question 3, we need to complete the final products so it is essential that these are completed with all the improvements made on them as soon as possible. Unfortunately Isabel is not in today however tomorrow as a group we plan to have a group discussion on progression and development. We have decided that we will all help each other when doing our evaluations so that the task - though marked individually - is still a group effort in some ways. We expect that the final products should be finished by the first week of December. The trailer has progressed drastically because of Richard's commitment and hard work and we are working on inserting the sound onto the trailer, however we still need to improve this element of our trailer.
